Beloved by Naoya Shiga

What is Mikiya?

Mikiya is a ryokan, a country inn of the purest Japanese traditions. It was founded 300 years ago in the early Edo period. In 1913 Naoya Shiga, novelist and author called "the god of novelists," came to stay here. On this stay, his masterpiece At Kinosaki was born. Here in the center of this hotspring town of Kinosaki, which even today reverberates with the sound of wooden clogs, a few steps takes you to tranquil places where time flows unhurriedly by. We hope you can sense the history and emotions that the literary master so loved about this special part of Japan.
